Timeline for the Science Fair
Place: North Peace Senior Secondary (smaller gym)
9304 – 86th street, Ft. St. John
7:30 to 8:30 am - Registration Monday evening registration
8:30 am to 8:50 am Project Safety Check
9:00 am to 12:00 pm Judging and scheduled activities begin
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Lunch
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Specialty Judging
3:00 pm to 4:30 pm Public Viewing
4:30 pm to 5:30 pm Awards Ceremony
5:30 pm to 6:00 pm Cleanup
Students Need to Bring the Following Items:
Project and all equipment related to their project
Project log book
Pen or pencil PLUS a RULER
Plastic bag to keep garbage in
Book or game
Wear a watch or other device and Sync with your sponsor teacher
Inside shoes + plastic bag for outside shoes/boots
(Students should keep outside footwear in a bag by their project.)
Transportation and Supervision:
Parents will need to make the appropriate arrangements to get their child to and from the science fair. Students need to plan to stay at the fair until 5:30 pm. There is limited parking at the school – car pool, if possible, if you plan to stay. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 am. Please check with your sponsor teacher as to when he/she will arrive at the fair.
Setting up your Science Fair Displays:
MONDAY EVENING: Students will be able to set up their projects and register on Monday, April 10, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. The science fair committee would appreciate students from our district to set up their displays at this time.
TUESDAY MORNING: Students unable to come Monday evening may register between 7:30 am and 8:20 am on Tuesday. Students from Dawson Creek and area will be setting up after 8:20 am due to the long distances they will be traveling. Students will be told their project # ahead of time. Students are to set up their project first at their designated number and then proceed to the registration desk in the gym to receive a T-shirt and a science fair pin.
ALL STUDENTS MUST BE READY BY 8:30 AM NEXT TO THEIR SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT.
PLEASE NOTE: All NPSS classes are in session. Science fair
students are not permitted to roam the halls and must stay in the
gym. Students may only use the bathrooms across from the gym.
Some activities do occur in other places in the school, but students
will be taken there by science fair helpers.
Judging: Students need to be at their projects at 8:30 am. A schedule of judging times and events will be taped next their project number. All grades will be judged three times and more if they are being considered for awards. Grades 4 to 6 will have a chance to win medals and special awards. Students in grades 7 to 12 will be competing for a number of special awards in their categories including the top award a trip to Regina, Saskatchewan, for the Canada Wide Science Festival.
Other Activities: Students will find a schedule for the three judge visits and other scheduled activities at their project. Activities will include a science show and other fun activities and challenges. Numerous prizes will be awarded for each activity.
Lunch: students need to bring their own lunch and beverages. A canteen will be open at the entrance of the gymnasium for the students. Science Fair students will not be allowed to eat at the cafeteria. Students need to stay at the fair during lunch.
Safety and Size: students have been given the list of safety rules and size requirements. Please check the list for all the restriction, but the major ones are No fire, No microbes of any type (take pictures instead), No plant material, No food as part of the experiment, No animals and No chemicals of any type (this also includes soap).
** Students that worked with animals or human must have
available the ethics permission and parent permission form if
students were used.
Projects that do not meet the size and safety rules will not be allowed at the fair.
NO CARDBOARD BACKBOARDS.
Viewing Projects: The public is welcome to visit the science fair between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
All judging will be finished by this time. Everyone is encouraged to stay for the award ceremony.
End of the Day: All activities and awards should be finished by 5:30 pm. Students are asked to remove their project and clean up their site immediately after the awards. Do not dispose your project at North Peace – please take it home. Remember this entire day is organized and run with volunteers. This includes the clean up. Thank you for
